Borrower’s Agreement
1. Members must be age 18 or over to borrow equipment from the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL), if an individual is under 18 and would like to borrow equipment from the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library, an individual over 18 must register membership on their behalf.
2. Prior to borrowing items, all Members must (a) complete this Membership Application on our online inventory platform called MyTurn; (b) accept the Waiver and Indemnification Form; (c) accept this Borrower’s Agreement.
3. The OOGL recognizes that equipment may be shared within groups or organizations, as such, the member who has borrowed the items to be shared assumes all responsibility and liability for the item.
4. Equipment can be borrowed at the OOGL for up to 5 days. The OOGL reserves the right to make some equipment items available for a borrowing period of longer or shorter than 5 days. For specific timing requests, please contact the Library Coordinator at oogl.librarycoordinator@gmail.com
5. All equipment borrowed is to be returned to OOGL during open hours. Only a few special items have a loan fee, i.e. GPS Spot satellite locator, etc. If applicable, loan fees will be charged upon borrowing, based on the amount of days the member needs the items for (up to one week). The vast majority of items from the OOGL can be borrowed at no-cost. If you are able and excited about making nature-based opportunities accessible to your neighbours, we welcome donations.
6. If an item is returned late, the Member will be responsible for any incurred late fees if deemed applicable. Please respect borrowing limits and do not return items late. Returning items late keeps equipment out of circulation and impacts other community members who are relying on borrowing equipment. The OOGL functions on community trust and accountability. If Members repeatedly return items late, the OOGL reserves the right to take away borrowing privileges.
8. The OOGL will try to accommodate any requests for reservations for items in advance. The member must contact OOGL for such a reservation by e-mail at oogl.librarycoordinator@gmail.com. The Member will need to collect the reserved equipment items the day they are available for pick up or the items will go back into inventory and will be signed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
9. The Member acknowledges that many items at the OOGL are donated, therefore the OOGL is not responsible for any manufacturing, material, or quality of workmanship defects of borrowed equipment. The OOGL does not represent or warrant that any equipment is fit for a particular purpose, and does not guarantee if the condition of the equipment is fit for use.
10. The OOGL staff members and volunteers are available to assist in explaining the operation of equipment. However, by taking possession of any equipment, the Member is certifying that they are capable of using that equipment in a safe, responsible, and prudent manner.
11. The Member agrees that if any borrowed equipment becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, they must immediately discontinue use of the equipment and notify the OOGL of the issue on return, if not earlier.
12. Having ample amounts of gear is integral to our mission, therefore, it is essential for our members to return gear in good, clean, condition. We operate on the foundation of respect and trust for our staff, volunteers, community, and members. The OOGL hopes our members will treat the library with that same respect. All equipment items are to be returned in the same (or better) condition as they were issued, subject to normal wear and tear. All equipment must be returned clean.
13. The OOGL reserves the right to refuse the loan of any equipment item at its discretion.
14. The Member is responsible for ensuring that the information that they provide on the Membership Application is current, true, and correct and shall update this information if it changes. The OOGL reserves the right to verify information provided by a Member.
15. Failure to comply with any of these rules and regulations may result in revocation of borrowing privileges and/or legal action. Members relinquish any and all claims against the National Capital Region Equitable Recreation Network (NCRERN) and the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL).
